TheĀ  American Clean Energy & Security Act passed the House by a narrow margin today (217-205). The legislation aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent by 2020 from 2005 levels, would mandate utilities to get 15 percent of their energy from renewables, and introduces a cap-and-trade measure to reduce emissions and fund conservation efforts. The bill now makes its way to the Senate where more compromises may be necessary in order to pass there.
