The Associated Press underwent an independent statistical analysis of global temperature trends by soliciting the help of statisticians, and keeping the nature of the numbers out of the analysis. The intent was to see if the temperatures trended upward or downward, without the statisticians knowing that the reading related to temperature. All statisticians in the blind test noted a distinct upward trend.
