Bentley today announced the creation of the Building Performance Group that will focus on software development to help create better performing and more sustainable buildings. The new group brings together product expertise from two recently acquired companies — Hevacomp (software for building system design and analysis) and Tas Software (energy analysis and simulation).

The creation of this group follows a current trend at Bentley and elsewhere for solutions-oriented software products. I like the way that Bentley has combined domain expertise in their software suites, such as the Bentley Water products from the Haestad Methods acquisition.

I expect we’ll see many more products in the building efficiency software space, including some that perform cloud-based analysis functions. Bentley has a good complement of products and expertise that they will be combining into solutions in the near future. I’m excited to see the products and case studies that develop in this space.
