We’re currently doing research into 3D model integration, working to understand the data formats best suited for CAD/GIS/BIM integration and the potential for integrated models. The efforts of the OGC 3DIM Working Group is setting the stage for greater interoperability, and is helping to push along our research into data format issues.

While we have a solid understanding of the potential for integrated models, the application of 3D visualization tools for large city models are rather new to us. Particularly of interest are details on rendering and visualization bottlenecks with large models. If you’re currently doing a lot of 3D work and have some insight into model integration, we’d love to hear from you.
