EU Researchers Working on Micro Drones for Environmental Sensing
environmental monitoring, sensor web June 5th, 2009The EU-funded µDrone (Micro Drone Autonomous Navigation and Environment Sensing) project is working on a mini UAV for use in urban settings or inside buildings. The Germany-based company AirRobot, a partner in the consortium, has developed a drone that weighs less than a kilogram that has four propellers that allow incredible range of motion. The drone can be maneuvered manually or can be sent on pre-planned flights.
The drone is being tested now for use at fire scenes to help help firefighters assess developing situations, and to see if it can effectively save lives. Field testing will take place in Greece in November 2009.
