Georgia’s Borderline Move
mapmaking, water February 22nd, 2008
Georgia lawmakers made a move to dispute the state line, angling for a boundary move that would give them access to the Tennessee River. The Republican-controlled House and Senate passed a resolution that states that a flawed 1818 survey puts the Tennessee River solely in the hands of Tennessee rather than granting Georgia access.
The dispute is largely over water rights, as Georgia continues to feel the pain of an extended drought. The Georgia resolution calls for a commission to resolve the dispute.
Not surprisingly the response from Tennessee isn’t kindly.
“They’re idiots,” stated Tennessee Republican Rep. Gerald McCormick. “It’s the silliest thing I’ve ever seen any Republicans do. I’m embarrassed that they would embarrass the party like that.”

Ummm….if Democrats were in charge. They would have done the same thing. I don’t think it has anything to do with a particular party. Rather the timing, extended drought and the want for more water.
If people want to make out to be political. More power to them.

I agree, and didn’t mean to make it sound like a bias. It’s a Republican speaking about other Republicans. Given the tenor of the remark, stripping party affiliations, would have made the coverage sound even more partisan.
