earth observation, environmental monitoring, water July 30th, 2009The environmental monitoring buoy network of the Upper Great Lakes Observing System (U-GLOS) is set to grow with a technology transfer from the University of Michigan to Michigan-based company S2 Yachts. With the transfer to the private company, more of the buoys will be deployed and it keeps people employed at the company.
The system gathers pollution ransport data and is aimed at understanding the exchange of water between Lake Michigan and its heavily populated bays. The goal is to forecast and predict the environmental stress that the community places on the water.
