Intermap Completes USA Collection
geovisualization, spatial data March 23rd, 2009Intermap has now completed data collection for 3.1 million square miles of the contiguous United States and Hawaii. This unprecedented company-funded effort will yield a number of different geospatial datasets, including 3D digital terrain models, digital surface models, contours, and 3D road centerline geometries.
Company president Brian Bullock commented on the scope of the effort to make NEXTMap USA: “Our planes flew a total of 2,530 sorties. This equates to 10,324 hours of actual program airtime, or a total of 4.96 working years aloft. Even more impressive is the fact that our various project teams spent a combined 24,643 days in the field – that’s an amazing 67.5 working years.”
More than 48% of the NEXTMap USA is currently available, with ongoing processing through early 2010. NEXTMap Europe will be completely available by the end of next month.
