L.A. BIMStorm Coming Soon
BIM, GIS/CAD Divide, event coverage, infrastructure January 16th, 2008
The BIMStorm LAX is an effort to bring together a large group of design professionals to design over 30 Los Angeles city blocks online in real-time on January 31. The effort is being organized by ONUMA, an organization that has effectively harnessed the web for previous online sustainable design charrettes for both Boston and Rotterdam.
ONUMA is an active proponent of Building Information Modeling (BIM), and has been active in the Open Geospatial Consortium’s effort to better align BIM, CAD and GIS. Their online ONUMA Planning System (OPS) is the platform for this demonstration. This online system simplifies the BIM toolset and integrates with Google Earth to display the broader geography, the tool can also export to a GIS. The hosted service also makes the idea of a BIMStorm possible, with online collaboration and visualization among a broadly dispersed group.
I look forward to logging in and viewing this demonstration as an observer. If you’re interested in participating, there are a number of short online training exercises to help you get up to speed. It’s not too late to get involved.
