Mumbai Prepares to Map Underground Utilities
earth observation, infrastructure, mapmaking January 4th, 2010The city of Mumbai has sent out tenders to carry out underground mapping of utilities in the city. There are at least 33 utilities with networks buried underground. The work builds upon a detailed base map that was prepared by the National Informatics Centre last year.
The underground survey will collect details on water, storm and sewer lines as well as other underground utilities. The survey is meant to prevent damage from digging and also to facilitate ongoing maintenance.
