“NOAA has a key role to play in providing the fundamental knowledge about the climate system, providing data as to how the system is changing and taking all of that information and providing it in a way that’s easy to understand in order to make decisions.”
Lubchenco takes over the agency when it’s role and budget are increasing. The agency’s 2009 budget has been increased by 20 percent, and includes $170 million for climate change research. There’s also $430 million for construction and repair of facilities.
